The Final Verdict

However after hearing the statements and weighing the evidence, the Court has decided to give Johnny Depp better compensation compared to Amber Heard.

The jury awarded Depp $10 million in compensatory damages and another $5 million in punitive damages. In comparison, Heard was given just $2 million in compensatory damages but no money for punitive damages.

This means that in the Court’s opinion, Depp had a better case than his former wife concerning the character assassination element.

It is in this sense that Johnny Depp can be considered to have a victory of sorts. Some may call it a Pyrrhic victory, but it is a victory nevertheless.

If anything, it shows that Depp is on the higher ground in the legal and moral sense. Therefore the Court showed more sympathy towards him than Heard in its final judgment.

With this outcome, the case finally comes to a close. It has been a long drawn out legal battle that spared no clichés and pulled all the punches. But it is finally over now.

Thoughts on the Judgment

In their talk to the media after the verdict was announced, Amber Heard’s lawyers maintain that their client’s intention was to bring out the truth of the matter.

Quoting Heard, the legal team stated that she was pleased that the facts of the case had been brought into the public eye. She was relieved for her children and all her supporters. Now she felt it was time to move forward and look the future.

An Ounce of Regret

Heard was stated to be disappointed and heartbroken over the judgment. She feels that her former husband has won the case due to his greater public standing and influence in the media, compared to her.

How the Trial Unfolded

Depp and Heard were married for just over a year between 2015 and 2016. They had met on the sets of a film called The Rum Diary in which they both starred.

Evidence from a clinical psychologist who worked with them as a marriage counselor in 2015 prior to their breakup, reveals that she considers both of them equally palpable and mutually abusive towards each other.

Both Heard and Depp’s lawyers presented photographs in addition to audio and video recordings prove their accusations against each other. Heard was the first to highlight the issue on media, as she claimed to be a poster girl for domestic abuse.

Depp’s supporters who gave evidence in the trial included Kate Moss, the model with which he had a previous relationship, and Walter Hamada, who heads DC Films.

Depp says that he has never struck a woman in his life, In fact, he considers the claims of sexual battery levied by Heard to be frivolous and exaggerated.

Additionally, he claims to be a victim of Heard’s verbal and physical abuse during their relationship.

He is just relieved to get his life back on track.
