Does sowing times have effect on the oil and protein ratios of sesame (Sesamum indicum L.) seeds?

Abstract

This study was carried out to investigate the effect of different sowing times and varieties on the oil and protein ratios of sesame seeds using seeds produced in the experimental field of Uludag University Mustafakemalpasa Vocational School in 2015 and 2016. Four sowing times (01 May, 15 May, 01 June and 15 June) and four varieties (Golmarmara, Boydak, Sarisu and Tanas) in the trial were used. According to results of variance analysis obtained using average values of two years, the effects of years, varieties, year x variety and year x sowing time interactions on oil ratios were found as significant, whereas the effects of sowing time are statistically insignificant. The oil ratios varied between 53.7% and 57.3%, depending on the varieties. The highest oil ratios were obtained from Sarisu and Golmarmara varieties. Protein ratios showed significant differences in terms of year, sowing time, variety and year x variety interaction effects. The highest protein ratios were found in the seeds of plants sown on May 01 with 52.4% while the lowest value was determined as 20.0% for July 15 sowing time. As in the oil ratios, Golmarmara and Sarisu varieties are the genotypes give the highest protein ratios, also.
